The two questions every kitchen client asks are 'how much' and 'how long.' The honest answer on timing is 6-10 weeks on site, but the clock really starts when you order cabinets.
Weeks 1-2: Demo and rough-in
Cabinets and appliances out, walls opened where needed, plumbing and electrical relocated, and inspections scheduled. This is the loudest, dustiest phase and it moves fast.
Weeks 3-4: Close-up and prep
Insulation, drywall, taping, priming, and flooring if it runs under the cabinets. Nothing looks like progress but everything depends on it.
Weeks 5-6: Cabinet installation
Boxes get set, leveled, and scribed to the walls. Once cabinets are in, the countertop fabricator can template — and templating is the hard gate in every kitchen schedule.
Weeks 7-8: Counters, backsplash, finish
Counters typically take 7-14 days from template to install. Then backsplash tile, plumbing hookups, appliance install, trim, and paint touch-up.
What causes delays
Two things: cabinet lead times (order 8-12 weeks ahead) and change orders mid-project. Deciding to move the sink after rough-in adds a week and real money. Lock the layout before demo.
